“Brian’s brief was to become familiar with the venue as a place of outstanding beauty and a world class cultural centre”

We’re delighted to announce the opening of an exhibition, ‘Snape Drawings: A meeting of minds’, at Snape Maltings, showcasing the work of the ‘illustrator in residence’, Brian Grimwood.

The ‘illustrator in residence’ forms part of our design concept where we select an artist each year to produce a series of drawings for the annual brochures, including the Aldeburgh Festival and Snape Proms.

Brian’s brief was to become familiar with the venue as a place of outstanding beauty and a world class cultural centre, and to illustrate the buildings and activities throughout the seasons.

“Brian is our second illustrator to take part in the collaboration, following on from Lucinda Rogers, who took the inaugural role,” explains Rob Steer, creative director at Silk Pearce.

“We are now looking forward to working in collaboration with another illustrator for 2020, who will bring a modernist approach to the designs,” he adds.

It's been all hands on deck to get the prints framed and hung at the Concert Hall Gallery, with designer, Anthony Blease, proving his DIY skills to get everything looking ship shape in time for the opening.

The illustrations are available to purchase for £300 framed, £250 unframed, and are on display at the Concert Hall Gallery at Snape Maltings until December 22. Pop in between 10am to 5.30pm (early closing 4.30pm Sundays).
